Sounders look sluggish in Texas heat, but get 1-0 win over Dynamo

The Seattle Sounders were without Raul Ruidiaz and it showed offensively. The Houston Dynamo out shot the Sounders 15-7 with 3 shots on target to the Sounders 1. The Sounders would only need just the one as Jordan Morris would get physical inside the box. Off a mile high rebound, Morris submarined the defender, flipped the ball over another defender, evaded being held by the jersey and poked the ball in from 8 yards past a goalie and yet another defender.

“I felt like I was on an island a little bit,” said Morris of the lining up in the traditional spot of a forward against Houston’s defense in the first half. “To move out left helped a little bit just in terms of getting the ball more and taking people on.”

Nouhou had a good game as well finding the field a starter. He and 16 year old Danny Leyva have turned heads as they are contributing for greater than had been expected. The rise of these two players makes up for the loss of Brad Smith, which has altered this team’s alignment greatly.

In addition to inserted Nouhou and Leyva, coach Brian Schmetzer rotated Morris out wide and put Nico Lodiero in a “false 9” position.  A spot where he looks almost like a striker, but in fact plays his normal attacking midfielder role. The need necessitated by Raul’s concussion looked interesting, but the Rave Green need to get Ruidiaz back on the pitch as soon as possible as the offense did suffer without him.
