Reaction: Silvertips rebound, take down Tri-City 3-1
The Silvertips returned home to Xfinity Arena on Wednesday night with a 3-0-1 season record and retribution on their minds as the Tri-City Americans came a calling.
Everett goalie Carter Hart earned the start between the pipes touting a 1.94 goals against average and fresh memories of the Silvertips 3-2 overtime loss to the same Americans Monday night.
Yet it was the Americans that took the early lead when Tri-City forward Maxwell James took control of the puck inside the Tips’ zone and skated in all-alone for a backhanded, top-shelf score. It was James first goal of the season. The teams played even hockey the remainder of the period.
Everett outshot the Americans 10-7 in the competitive first period with no time served in the box for either team.
But when the puck dropped to start the second, it was apparent things would not stay even long as the Silvertips took it to the Americans for most of the second period.
After the penalty-free first period, the Silvertips took advantage when two Tri-City players were called to the box early in the second.
First forward Michael Rasmussen was sent off the ice and given a cross-checking minor. Then Americans defenseman Dalton Yorke drew a charging call less than a minute later.
With the 5-on-3 advantage, Everett winger Dominic Zwerger tallied his first goal as a Silvertip and as such, evened the score at 1-1. The assists on the play went to defenseman Kevin Davis and Noah Juulsen.
When the horn sounded, Everett enjoyed a 28-11 shot advantage over two periods and found themselves in another tight battle with the Americans.
In the third, Graham Millar put Everett ahead with a bang-bang play and a wiff in front of the Tri-City net as right wing Devon Skoleski dug the puck out of the corner and sent it on net when Graham Millar slapped it past the goalie Beck Warm for the 2-1 lead.
The final goal came on an long-ice empty net shot when the Americans pulled their net-minder and Noah Juulsen sent a cross-ice pass down the rink ending in the Tri-City net.
For the game, Everett showed some home-ice dominance and finished with a 33-16 advantage in shots and a fine 4-0-1 record on the early year.
