Rat City Roller Girls: Season 11

Posted by

Seattle Side Up Abraham Profile PicMarch 7th, the Rat City Roller Girls come back to the Rat’s Nest with another bout. These bodacious, bawdy, bombastic babes skate at blistering speed, breaking the speed of sound and the hearts of their competitors.

For the uninitiated, the Rat City Roller Girls are a roller derby league comprising four teams, a couple of developmental teams and several youth teams.

The Roller Girls exist in a world similar to Ice Hockey, where speed and technique are tempered by brazen brutishness.  The Roller Girls mix counter-culture craziness with burlesque, with athleticism, and a healthy bit of post-feminist punk.

The Rat City Roller Girls began their 11th season in January and have extended their season to 7 bouts–two of which are at Key Arena and the other 5 at the Rat’s Nest in Shoreline.

I had the opportunity to go to the Rat’s Nest this season and I found it to be an intimate experience as I was able to get within mere feet of the action!

Located on 190th and Aurora (highway 99), the Rat’s Nest has the underground vibe of a fight club.  Though seating was limited, it was not necessary as I was constantly on my feet in amazement and excitement cheering on these fighting females of the flat-track.
I fully intend to go back, and recommend the experience to anyone who enjoys athletic competition and athletes giving 100%.
