It’s the dawn of a new baseball season! That means it’s time for our team of “experts” and myself to offer our picks to win it all.
I Matthew Paige – the Baseball Editor of SSU – hereby proclaim that the Houston Astros will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in an epic showdown for the World Series.
My picks
And whilst our heroes, those fighting True to the Blue Seattle Mariners will improve this season, it wont be enough. A valiant effort will be put forth to place them into the final spot in the Wild Card, but they shall not take it any further. Fear not M’s fans, as this is a portent of things to come. This year however, does not belong to the Mariners.
LA Dodgers
Pitcher Clayton Kershaw is a god amongst men. He is the Felix Hernandez of the National League; the 28 year old Kershaw has a lifetime 2.42 ERA and can not be stopped. With the likes of Scott Kazmir and Kenta Maeda, this rotation is ready to face the formidable Astros.
Kyle Seager’s little brother Corey has carved out a place for himself in Chavez Ravine. Dissatisfied with being “Kyle’s little brother,” Corey exploded on the scene with a .346 average. Compounded with Mr. Steady himself, Adrian Gonzalez, the Dodgers are ready for a deep run.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros boast a litany of stars who you may not know right now, but will be legends in their own right. First, is long-time M’s fans favorite Doug Fister. Yes guys, the 6’8 behemoth will bring a championship to Texas.
But it wont be just him, included is one Dallas Keuchel. The 28 year old Razorback (from Arkansas), hit 20 wins last year and earned a Cy Young award. Offensively, Jose Altuve is pulling his best Robinson Cano impression becoming the best 2nd baseman in the MLB at age 25.
The SSU team’s picks
Included in this poll, are fine folks who take on various roles here at the Seattle Sports Union (SSU), ranging from Social Media to Editing.
Included on these projections are of course myself, Ian Loney (baseball co-editor), Brent Goodwine (baseball contributor), Aarron Kemp (baseball contributor), Kevin Kapanowski (SSU Founder), Brett Masker (the delusional Editor), and the completely incorrect Abraham DeWeese (Editor-in-Chief).
Later this season my dear reader, I will recall how correct my premonitions were and prove my worth.
Feel free to add your thoughts/criticisms/rants below in our comment section. All members of this poll are available to defend their logic (except Abraham on his NL East pick).
