Number 18 Boise State (12-1) will take on the University of Washington (7-5) in a clash that sees HC Chris Petersen coach his final game with UW against his former team Boise State. UW had played the Broncos before losing in 2015 by a 16-13 score and this rematch seems to be fitting for a retiring Chris Petersen.
Winners of the Mountain West title, Boise State sees a return to Vegas; last year, failing to win the MWC was marred by bad luck as bad weather cancelled their appearance in the First Responder Bowl. Boise State beat Oregon just 2 years ago in Las Vegas 38-28 and the Huskies should not expect to see anything but the Broncos best effort.
“Love going to Las Vegas,” said Petersen, who served as Boise State’s head coach from 2006 to 2013, in a news conference Sunday. “Been there a few times and they do a great job and it’s an awesome location for fans. The other thing is just being an early bowl game. Sometimes these things can just drag on for a long time. So it’s one of the rare (early) bowl games. So we’ll go prepare, be ready to play.”
The Huskies entered the season ranked #12 but turned in an uninspiring 7-5 season that ended in a sad conclusion with a burnt-out Chris Petersen making the decision to retire. The game should be a way to honor Petersen and an attempt to go out on a high note. However, stars TE Hunter Bryant and Tackle Trey Adams will sit out bowl game in preparation for the NFL draft.
In other PAC-12 news the final bowl game selections have gone out with:
- Oregon to face Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl
- Utah to face Texas in the Alamo Bowl
- USC to face Iowa in the Holiday Bowl
- Cal to face Illinois in the Redbox Bowl
- Wazzu to face Air Force in the Cheez-It Bowl
